羅9:6-19
這並不是說天主的話落了空，因為不是凡從以色列生的，都是真以色列人；也不是凡是亞巴郎的後裔，就都是他的真子女，而是『由依撒格所生的，才稱為你的後裔，』即是說：不是血統上的子女，算是天主的子女，而是藉恩許所生的子女，才算為真後裔。原來恩許是這樣說的：『到明年這時候我要來，撒辣必有一個兒子。』並且關於黎貝加也有相似的事。她從我們的先祖依撒格一人懷了孕；當時雙胎還沒有出生，也沒有行善或作惡；但為使天主預揀的計畫堅定不移，且為顯示這計畫並不憑人的行為，而只憑天主的召選，遂有話給她說：『年長的要服事年幼的。』正如經上記載：『我愛了雅各伯而恨了厄撒烏。』那麼，我們可說什麼呢？難道天主不公道嗎？絕對不是！因為祂對梅瑟說過：『我要恩待的，就恩待；我要憐憫的，就憐憫。』這樣看來，蒙召並不在乎人願意，也不在乎人努力，而是由於天主的仁慈，因為經上有話對法郎說：『我特興起了你，是為在你身上彰顯我的大能，並為使我的名傳遍全世界。』這樣看來，祂願意恩待誰，就恩待誰；祂願意使誰心硬，就使誰心硬。
或者，你要問我說：既是這樣，為什麼祂還要責怪人呢？有誰能抗拒祂的意志呢？
But it is not that the word of God has failed. For not all who are of Israel are Israel, nor are they all children of Abraham because they are his descendants; but “It is through Isaac that descendants shall bear your name.” This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as descendants. For this is the wording of the promise, “About this time I shall return and Sarah will have a son.” And not only that, but also when Rebecca had conceived children by one husband, our father Isaac — before they had yet been born or had done anything, good or bad, in order that God’s elective plan might continue, not by works but by his call — she was told, “The older shall serve the younger.” As it is written: “I loved Jacob but hated Esau.” What then are we to say? Is there injustice on the part of God? Of course not! For he says to Moses: “I will show mercy to whom I will, I will take pity on whom I will.” So it depends not upon a person’s will or exertion, but upon God, who shows mercy. For the scripture says to Pharaoh, “This is why I have raised you up, to show my power through you that my name may be proclaimed throughout the earth.” Consequently, he has mercy upon whom he wills, and he hardens whom he wills.
You will say to me then, “Why (then) does he still find fault? For who can oppose his will?”

「凡在人前承認我的，我在我天上的父前也必承認他；但誰若在人前否認我，我在我天上的父前也必否認他。
「你們不要以為我來，是為把平安帶到地上；我來不是為帶平安，而是帶刀劍，因為我來，是為叫人脫離自己的父親，女兒脫離自己的母親，兒媳脫離自己的婆母；所以，人的仇敵，就是自己的家人。」
耶穌囑咐完了他的十二門徒，就從那裏走了，為在他們的城裡施教宣講。
”Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father.
”Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword. For I have come to set ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one’s enemies will be those of his household.'”
When Jesus finished giving these commands to his twelve disciples, he went away from that place to teach and to preach in their towns.
